David holds a law degree summa cum laude from Universidad Hemisferios in Quito, Ecuador; a Master’s Degree in International Dispute Settlement (MIDS) graduated with honours from the University of Geneva and the Geneva Graduate Institute (IHEID); and a Diploma in Tort Law from Universidad Complutense de Madrid. David has over six years of experience in litigation and arbitration related to the oil & gas, fishing, insurance, construction, technology, and concessions sectors. He is also a member of the Ecuadorian Institute of Arbitration. Previously, he served on the Executive Committee of Ecuador Very Young Arbitration Practitioners (ECUVYAP). David is fluent in English.
Professional experience
David worked at the Ecuadorian law firm Jaramillo Dávila Abogados (2017–2021) and in the London office of Three Crowns LLP (2022–2023). He has been involved in over 30 arbitrations—acting as party counsel and tribunal secretary—including ad hoc UNCITRAL proceedings and institutional arbitrations administered by ICSID, PCA, ICC, LCIA, CCL, AMCHAM Quito, and CCQ.
Academic Activity
David serves as an external reviewer for the Revista Ecuatoriana de Arbitraje, FORO (Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar), USFQ Law Review, and the International Journal of Marine Science and Technology (Vietnam Maritime University).
He is an Adjunct Professor for the Advanced Legal Writing for International Litigation course at Pontificia Universidad Comillas-ICADE in Madrid.
Previously, he was a Tenured Professor of Tort Law and an Assistant Professor of Commercial Arbitration and Inheritance Law at Universidad Hemisferios (Quito, Ecuador), where he also coached the arbitration moot team. Additionally, he collaborated with the Ecuadorian Institute of Arbitration and Universidad San Francisco de Quito to establish Ecuador’s first database dedicated exclusively to arbitration (Available here).
